Plot Summary

Saniyah Carter is a successful divorce lawyer. She has everything a woman could want a successful career and a handsome fiancé. What more could a woman want right? It seems she has the perfect life but sometimes looks can be deceiving, as Saniyah soon discovers.

Once Saniyah’s perfect world starts to fall apart, she is taken to a place that will help ease the pain in her heart and the throbbing between her thighs. Seduction was never on her mind when she stepped foot into Club Pleasure. That was until she was tempted by the Devil himself.

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on November 2, 2018

Saniyah has a life and a future that she sees in front of her. But there are veils covering her eyes which are torn away to revel the real future she cannot escape. Hell is real, in all of its forms and Saniyah is about to enter her own personal hell.

The work tells of a conflict between various beings that Saniyah is sandwiched in the middle of. From the start the story takes a hard turn from what she tells her life to be at the beginning and spirals rapidly into a tale of dark erotica and damnation. It’s not a gentle telling, the story doesn’t shy away from the worst parts of mortals and immortals. The tone is very dark and while there might be the slightest glimmer of hope for Saniyah, the main character, that’s a fleeting thing.

There are various characters that have demon aspects to them, the closest to an incubus being the character called Devil. He’s something not quite stereotypical overall, there are many other characters that have that aspect to them. Still, he’s a dark character as all within the story are to various aspects. A dark hero perhaps is the best description of him overall.

The erotica overall is tepid and really is a means to add more strife to Saniyah and reveal all that she hasn’t been aware of. It’s sex for the sake of sex and that works for what the story focused on, I just didn’t enjoy the scenes very much. Tied into that, the storytelling felt really rushed, more so than I’d have liked as well. Again, this is part of the darkness of the story, the choices made and the results of them.

It’s hard to really like most of the characters, they aren’t exactly kind or try to bring some light into the story. But the story just doesn’t allow for that. The characters are meant to suffer their fates, Saniyah is meant to travel her path and where that takes her flows into the darkness that blankets the story. As a dark story, it works well, but I couldn’t find a character to like when the story closed.

Three and a half out of five pitchforks.

It’s an interesting and complex beginning to the series overall. But with how fast the story is told I found things a little difficult to sort out clearly. Perhaps allowing for a pause here and there in the telling might have helped overall. There’s a lot of conflict coming to the characters and where that leads to will be interesting.
