Plot Summary
The Inquisitor and his retinue have been brought down, and without any direct evidence that Mhyrsha, or her public persona of Baroness Pureheart were involved. She and her pets have gained levels and loot, but now she needs to start on her journey to Crystalshield, to get ideas for how to organize a militia to better defend Windwater Barony. It is a trip that likely will take weeks, or maybe months, especially as she'll be traveling as a 'normal' person, instead of with a full procession proclaiming her titles and all.
However, to get to Crystalshield, she first must cross Shadescar Barony. There, near the Baron's seat in Magehallow Town, lies the Necropolis of Akkras, a dungeon known for the undead monsters within. Unfortunately, not all is well in the dungeon. Recently, the monsters have grown stronger, and people are worried that something has changed. As someone who has a Boss title, though, Mhyrsha has an idea on what might have changed. And fighting her way through the undead to kill another Boss ought to increase her power even further.
Book Review
The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on November 25, 2025
Mhyrsha finds herself in a quest and along the way she and her group enter a dungeon crawl. But not all dungeons are what they appear and she might just have made a choice that brings about changes she really never wanted any part of.
The work continues from the prior one, Mhyrsha being the focus here as she travels from place to place, gaining information and, at points, more power as the story develops. It feels very much like a D&D adventure, the dungeon part of the story especially so with a few LitRPG additions to that. It is an interesting and involved adventure story which kept my interest at least until the stats started appearing and I started skipping pages.
That focus on stats I feel is becoming a problem as, more or less, one-quarter of the pages are dedicated to noting all of them that Mhyrsha has and that feels like it is getting out of control. I understand it, that is how LitRPG is, but at what point are there enough and the story, and character development for that matter, can fill in the space?
As for Mhyrsha, her succubus aspects are muted once again in the story, they really have very little to do with the adventure and as such she being a succubus means very little to the story. She has a lot more aspects obviously, she is developing as a character, but at the same time it would be nice to fall back on her succubus nature and see where that takes her as well.
Two and a half out of five pitchforks.
The story ends in a place where things are going to be turning quite bad for everyone, not just Mhyrsha herself it seems. Perhaps her darker nature, or even her succubus one, will come into play. It’s something to wonder about but we shall see what comes next.
