Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on November 24, 2023

Ms. Ekhinos is delighted that her son is going to be marrying a passionate vampire and, of course, she and the monster girls of the boarding house have to throw a bachelorette party. There will be fun and games of course, and there might even be something more that the girls have in mind for the bride and Ms. Ekhinos herself.

Continuing from the prior work, this part of the series focuses on Ms. Ekhinos, her son, and his vampire bridge to be, along with all of the monster girls still at the boarding house. The work mainly focuses entirely on the erotic fun that they all get into before the close and the marriage ceremony comes to pass. There’s really not a lot of story beyond those points, though some side commentary offers hints of what might be in the future for Ms. Ekhinos and a bit of a glimpse of the beliefs of the monster girls themselves.

The erotica swirls around the orgy the girls and Ms. Ekhinos become entangled in, with each of the characters having a moment in the story before Ms. Ekhinos continues onwards. Some of the scenes themselves are a bit reflective of what’s happened before in the series, the heat simmers for the most part to the close of the work overall. There are a couple of moments that were very fun and cute however which added something to the erotica overall.

Vixen, the succubus of the series, makes an appearance at points throughout, but she’s not really in the foreground. Her commentary is delightful, there are moments when her own passions and needs thrust her into the moment as well. But again she’s on the fringes of rhe story and doesn’t really feel like much more than a minor character overall which left me a bit disappointed with all that’s happened prior in the series.

Two and a half out of five pitchforks.

Vixen barely appears in this work, mainly to make a comment and then she’s out of the story. It’s something of a pause overall, though it does allow for a bit more development of Ms. Ekhinos and revealing more about her past. As such, this isn’t a succubus story, but there is some plot and development that adds to the series overall and where that takes things I hope will be interesting.

This brings the series to a close and that’s something of a shame. The character development wasn’t as deep as it needed to be. Vixen, as amusing a succubus as she is, was used in a way that left so much unexplored. That’s true of all of the characters however. The series mainly focused on a series of erotic encounters that became somehow repetitive by the conclusion too.

I still wonder if there is more to Ms. Ekhinos, if she perhaps might have been who the monster girls worshiped in disguise. That particular question, if true, is a story plot and character development that really would have changed the tone and path of the series. It certainly would have added more overall, given the characters time to become more than many of them came to be, voices on the fringes of the story itself.

In the end, this is a story with a succubus, rather than a succubus story. Vixen is delightful, and when she appeared, her personality brought a smile. It’s a shame that her character wasn’t explored, there were some interesting aspects of her personality and powers that I thought had a lot of promise. But while she was seemingly important at points in the series, Vixen was still a minor character all things considered.

Perhaps at some point this author will give the story and characters as much focus as the erotica has. That feels like the missing part here, and giving time to develop the story and characters to be something more would add so much to what otherwise appears.
