Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on May 16, 2023

Briana faces an entirely new existence before her. The world isn’t the same, she’s caught in a web with no escape. Mahalia cursed her to become a futa succubus and Briana’s humanity is slowly being whittled away. There’s no telling what will happen next, but whatever it is, Briana cannot escape her duty to Stacy and the need Mahalia has driven within them both.

Following on immediately from the prior work, the story is somewhat reflective at times for the main character Briana as she is guided by Mahalia in her new existence, forced to come to terms with her fading humanity, and discovers what Mahalia has brought in her wake since arriving on Earth.

Once more the work is very short and there’s little time available to delve into the mental changes that Briana undergoes. It’s a shame because that would have been so much more interesting if her fall could have been explored. Similarly there’s mention of what’s happened to Stacy, but that’s not explored either. She’s an afterthought which again shouldn’t be. Her transformation is past, but she could have been used by Mahalia to press Briana onwards to accept herself as a futa succubus.

There’s also a passage in the work that describes how the world has changed as a result of Mahalia’s arrival. It’s mentioned in passing and then the story turns away from that. Again, there’s a huge amount of storytelling that could have been but wasn’t. This is honestly the largest issue with the series. A lot of really good ideas are dropped in, teased, and then the story moves on and forgets about them.

This is especially true with the closing pages of the story. Mahalia mentions in passing more aspects of Briana’s new form, a source of conflict from others they face as succubi, and then the story ends. Given all of these really good ideas scattered about, there is so much storytelling that needs to be explored and it just can’t be for how short this work is.

Looking back on the series as a whole, the entire work feels like a stream of story ideas, plots and characters told in summary. There’s a lot of good story ideas, but so many of them are mentioned in passing and then left behind to get to the next one. The author would be well served to gather all of the threads and expand on them. What’s offered here really is a tease and not a lot more. That’s the real shame as this could have been so much more and so much better.

Two out of five pitchforks.

The work, like the prior ones in the series, needs another editing pass to clean up the narrative, bring emotion to the dialogue, and give heat to the erotica. There are a lot of plot and character development to explore and perhaps the author will revisit and revise their works into a single volume to add the life needed to make these works be all they offer.
