Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on March 19, 2024

The truth has been revealed and for Damien, it brings with it a lot of questions. It’s not so much about what he’s become, but rather what that means for his future. Lilith has told him that he’s different and he knows he can do amazing things. Perhaps the most amazing thing of all is to give a gift that answers all of the prayers of a lost soul.

Following on a short time after he prior work, the series and characters continue their development and the building of the larger plot comes into play. There’s a good deal of focus on storytelling, of adding to the mythos of this story universe and I really enjoyed that. It is also very complicated for all of the characters involved and with that comes a lot of plot threads to be explored in the future.

The erotica is woven into the story really well, there’s a reason for why the moments happen and it doesn’t feel out of place. What’s so dearly lovely is the emotional undercurrents in the scenes and were that takes the characters. There are aspects of need for some, but for others the erotica is more of a love story mixed with a wish fulfilment and that unfolded in a way that give a lot of depth to Damien and to Bethany by far.

Damien, the incubus of the series, remains delightfully lost and looking for direction at times. He’s a bit clueless at times, possibly more than he really should be considering his mother Lilith, but in the time frame of the series, it’s been barely a few aays since he came into his powers. A reflection perhaps of youth feeling invincible, but at the same time Damien seems like he can’t quite keep things under control.

That’s not a criticism, more of a note about his character than anything else really. I do like the hero aspects of him, the gifts he gives to others and what comes from doing so. But at some point it feels like Lilith will have to take a firm hold on her son for his own sake. As for Lilith, she’s as much a delight as the first work and I loved seeing more of her personality and drive. Perhaps that’s something to delve deeper into, she’s still very much a mystery.

In the midst of all of this comes a moment which, for me, brought me no end of delight. Actually it brings me a thought to explore sometime and that’s the best part of this author’s works. Every bit as a delight as the first work in the series by far. There’s a lot more moving pieces to the puzzle and I’m curious as to where things go from here.

Five out of five pitchforks.

I really want more time with Lilith, if for no other reason than for her to tell more about herself. As for Damian, I feel like he’s pushing the edge of the envelope and either Lilith will tame him a bit or events will overcome him. How this part of the series ends is rather ominous and mysterious as well. I look forwards to seeing what comes next and the troubles and tribulations to be.
