In the work Den of Inequity, confusion about the means through which the succubus Genevieve can survive among humans without causing death brings Athelina to investigate her. The truth is very simple, a question of control, and one of them has very little of that.
The work tells a story of erotic heat, dominance and submission, passion, lust and most of all, a story of learning to control oneself and see what is offered before them. The writing is wonderful, the characters have depth and personality and with that comes a tone to the work that sets the story squarely between the two succubi main characters as one teaches the other about themselves and their kind.
I do wish there had been more told about succubi and incubi in this world, it’s hinted at, but not explored as it might have been. But with that said, there is a lot of the pieces there, the story allows for thoughts to wonder and, most of all, there’s a need in the story for the characters not to be stereotypical in their nature. I enjoyed that most of all. The lessons being taught, the cravings explored, all bring a flavour and tone that is a delight.
The succubi of the work, Genevieve and Athelina are not stereotypical, though Athelina has a certain point of view that carries to the close of the work, but with that comes a lot of character development that captivated me. Genevieve is complicated, quite intelligent and has sorted out the secret to do more than survive in the modern world and the answer is so very obvious and so very delicious as well. They may not have horns and tails visible, but the crave and need sexual energy as succubi do. The difference is that one has the answer and the other needs to be brought to understand to, honestly, save their kind.
Four out of five pitchforks.
The single thing about this story is how much heat comes form the two succubi being at odds and the dominance and submissiveness between them cast on the edge. Beyond that, the tone of the story and more importantly to me at least, the singular truth it holds is ao very much a delight by far.
For the work as a whole, three and a half put of five pitchforks.
Really any of the stories could be made into some quite amazing longer novels and it would be interesting to see that happen. A lovely collection of heat and worth a read.
