Plot Summary

Years after the war that nearly claimed her soul, Lily Voss has carved out a quiet life as a wife, mother, and protector of Everdale — or so she thinks. But when her teenage twins begin to display a rare and volatile magic, new enemies emerge from the shadows, determined to claim them.

As old alliances fracture and a darker force rises, Lily must return to battle — not as a monster, but as a mother with everything to lose.

Blood may have built this legacy. But love will decide who survives it.

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on April 28, 2026

There is a truth that cannot be escaped, your family means everything. For Lily it’s more than a truth, it is her reason for living.

The work continues a few years in the future and for the most part revolves around the mystery of the children Lily calls hers and the family that has survived all they have faced. There’s a lot of tangled threads that are explored to tell of the past and what the future holds for the family as well. The plot and tone is much as the same as it has been so far in the series, nd at times a little frustrating in how things develop between Lily and those around her.

The oddest thing about this work is the rush to get to the close and along the way there are so many dangling threads left loose and frayed by far. The same problem of having a lot to tell, but feeling too rushed to get to the last page and it really didn’t need to.

Lily, while she is still a succubus, that part of her nature has no place in the story. There’s still quite a lot of snark and deflection from her past. Her succubus nature remains tamped down in the story, and has little to do with her using magic in various ways and so her succubus nature gets pushed back and once more really has little meaning in tis part of the series.

Three out of five pitchforks.

After reading the third work in the series, it’s a bit difficult for me to want to continue to read what follows. There’s really nothing succubus themed in the series now, save that Lily is one, but never is actually one. That’s part of her character arc and all and I understand that of course. If it wasn’t for the delight in the snark and silly moments, I feel that I wouldn’t have continued with the series. We’ll see what I think of the next book and if it appeals to me enough to review or not.
