Plot Summary

Lily Cabot is different than most people. Raised in a strict, religious household, the pull she felt toward the occult was both baffling and terrifying throughout her angst-ridden childhood. During her second year as a PhD student of parapsychology in the world’s most haunted city (Edinburgh), she discovers that an ancient being is residing within her historic apartment. The invisible hands and lips that tease her body every night offer immense pleasure, but never sweet relief. Her sexy professor suspects it's an incubus. Weeks later, when the entity finally transforms into a gorgeous man, she is both awestruck and aching with lust. Lily knows better than to succumb to his seductive charms, but can she resist temptation?

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on September 15, 2017

Lily has discovered there’s something odd about her home. A presence that is gaining a foothold into her thoughts which she cannot understand. But the vision wants something from her and however it needs to, it will have its desires made real.

The story takes the form of a mystery, with hints of erotica around the edges. Overall the erotica leads towards the incubus of the story, Vinctus, to making himself known and drawing Lily to him. There isn’t really a lot of heat in those scenes as a whole, but the story uses the encounters to add more depth. As this work isn’t erotica, this fits well and makes sense.

Vinctus is, overall, a self-centered character, his background and beliefs place him into that defining box. It’s a shame that his initial appearance doesn’t fit the end of his plot arc. What he does, and what Lily is forced to do, is both expected, per the myths, and slightly stereotypical in being so. Still, Vinctus is a plot point, not the story when all else is taken into account.

The mystery is well told, the story away from Vinctus is delightful and Lily is a strong character who really made the story wonderful. At its core the work is a good opening to the series it begins and leaves a lot of paths for Lily to explore. All is all there is really well done storytelling and it is a lovely read.

Three and a half out of five pitchforks.

Vinctus is perhaps stereotypically evil in a way, overall it’s a feeling of simply not being able to understand and accept the reality he is trapped in. Beyond him, the story offers a lot and it’s a good opening to the rest of the series that follows.
