Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on April 17, 2022

David is smitten with Leslie, but she seems not to be into him. Some ill-advised research brings him to summon a succubus who offers what he desires most, for Leslie to want him too. But the wants of another bring unexpected change, a new desire and the succubus everything she wants from them both and more.

The work tells a story which mixes gender transformation, mind control and female dominance in an interesting way. It is a bit rushed at points, some of the dialogue doesn’t sound right occasionally. The gender transformation is drawn out and as David changes form, the mental changes work well. Similarly the encounters between Leslie and the new David have some lovely cuteness, being a lot of fun.

The succubus of the work, who’s name is never revealed, save for being called Mistress, is somewhat stereotypical in her dominance, her drive and the hidden games within her actions. That’s not a bad thing really, but there are times where her voice seems mute or confused until there’s a push to the erotica once more.

I’ll also note that the means David uses to summon the succubus was a bit over the top, the means to getting the information felt thin and bland, which was a shame. But the actual summoning and first encounter were really well done and I enjoyed how the succubus took David’s needs and leashed his will.

The erotica lacks heat in much of the story and that I think is because of the missing emotional impact of the dialogue. It’s too rote, too monotone and could have used another edit to make it something better.

It’s a fully realized story that has quite a lot of character development overall. But it’s missing some needed emotion, some of the dialogue just doesn’t should right too. Still, the succubus is interesting, if not really developed as much as I would have liked.

Three and a half out of five pitchforks.

How things end brings the story to a good point, giving the characters what they desired, but leaving the reader with a question to think about. Perhaps in that question comes a thread that might have been explored more given the speed of the transformation, the ensnarement of the main characters and the mystery that the succubus is.
