Tonino loves with all he is, but there is a darkness taking away the women he loves. An incubus stalks the town and Tonino must defeat them for the sake of the lovers he lives for.
The work is a very short mystery adventure at the heart of which is an incubus that has taken the form of Tonino and killed his lovers one by one. Tonino is called the killer for most of the work until the incubus reveals themselves and the confrontation unfolds.
Quite well written, the emotional aspects of the story are very strong, the characters have depth and voices that add to the story. It is a bit convoluted at times, the language and dialogue being of a time well past adds a flavour to the story as well.
The incubus, who is never named, is something of a puzzle. They are an incubus, but with some aspects of Tonino’s personality used against Tonino. At the same time they are evil in a predator sort of way which tells of their character, but there isn’t really a lot of depth and time placed into exploring them really.
Three out of five pitchforks.
Really a unique story and honestly quite a lot more than I expected from the beginning. It is an odd read, being written in a style that is more 1800s in tone than anything else. Where things come to a close are both well told and so dearly sad as well. Perhaps a bit shaded because of the language and tone, but still a remarkable story.
