Plot Summary
Desertion is a hanging offense, but Cletus Henry James isn’t worried. He’s two-thousand miles away, in the Pacific Northwest, where a Confederate train carrying a payload of gold is due through any day. All he has to do is take it.
But robbery is never a simple thing, and when his luck turns south he’s forced to flee. The only problem is, there’s nowhere to go. Nowhere but AlbaMar, a piece of land so riddled with superstition, not even the Indians dare enter. He’s been warned, sure, but those are just stories. There’s no such thing as werewolves or succubi, trolls or goblins, fountains of youth. It’s all just mumbo jumbo.
And so he goes. A quick decision, made in haste, and one that will change his life forever. . . and bring AlbaMar to the edge of ruin.
