Plot Summary

Bella Jackson, a 36-year-old journalist in New York City, lives an outwardly perfect life until she discovers that she transforms into a succubus demon when she sleepwalks at night. This transformation drives her to seduce and drain the life force of her victims, leading to a series of mysterious deaths. Alarmed by her own actions, Bella confides in her best friend, Desiree, who helps her uncover the truth about her nightly transformations.

The novel follows Bella's struggle to control the succubus within her while maintaining her daytime persona. Detective Winslow, investigating the string of deaths, becomes entangled in Bella's life, intensifying the suspense and mystery. As Bella and Desiree delve deeper into the origins of the succubus curse, they encounter numerous challenges, including the eventual death of Desiree at Bella's hands.

Throughout the story, Bella confronts her inner demons and fights to reclaim her humanity. She discovers ancient rituals and artifacts that could help her break the curse. With the support of Detective Winslow and the knowledge gained from their investigations, Bella faces the ultimate battle against the darkness within her.

In the climax, Bella successfully performs a ritual that weakens the succubus's hold on her, but the threat of the darkness lingers. The foundation she establishes, the Bella Jackson Foundation, becomes a beacon of hope for others battling their inner demons. The foundation's growth and Bella's continued efforts to help others reflect her journey towards redemption.

The novel concludes with Bella, Desiree, and Winslow forging unbreakable bonds through their shared experiences. Bella stands ready to face whatever challenges lie ahead, with the understanding that the battle against darkness is ongoing but surmountable with courage, determination, and the support of loved ones.

This tale of transformation, resilience, and the fight for one's soul underscores the enduring strength of the human spirit in the face of both internal and external adversities. The story of Bella Jackson, the succubus within, continues ever onward, into the unknown.

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on May 13, 2025

Bella is the victim of a waking nightmare, a battle she cannot escape. A succubus within takes control when she sleeps, and none are safe from her. But a battle lost does not mean the end of the internal war between them. Perhaps it never will end, but only Bella’s future knows for certain.

The work is a mixture of modern setting and mystery which has bits of erotica here and there, but overall focuses on Bella, the main character and the succubus who lurks within her. It might be best to see this as a psychological struggle for the most part with much of the battle being internal. With that said, it is interesting to see how the story unfolds, and the battles develop.

But it’s also so very repetitive and that is where the problem lies with this work. There is a fight, Bella wins, then the succubus returns, they have another fight and so on. It’s somewhat expected and by the end of the work the last paragraph of each chapter has been repeated so many times it has lost all meaning.

The succubus of the work, who is never named, is an existential threat for the most part. She taunts and threatens before being seemingly overcome. Then she returns again and it starts all over again. There’s very little told about her as a character and it’s a shame she wasn’t developed more. Being more active in the story, having a voice and more of a plan towards what she wants would have added a lot and been so much more interesting than she turned out to be.

Two out of five pitchforks.

It’s far too repetitive and overall, the work needs to be edited further to make the dialogue better and the narrative more so. The idea is interesting but how the story flows and things are revealed just doesn’t work here like it needs to. There’s little which held me in the story and the ending just did the same and I wish that hadn’t been.
