Plot Summary
Alice is imaginative and lonely. The life she has inside her fantasies is far more vibrant than anything the real world can offer. When something demonic finds her, it offers to make her vivid dreams a reality. The voice from the mirror is so understanding and so tempting that it seems almost impossible to resist.
When Alice meets the incubus, she learns about her true capacity for love and lust. She also learns what it means to be a magician.
This searingly sexual tale is not for the faint hearted. If you are easily offended, look elsewhere. If you like your erotica dark, your sex steamy and your romance filled with danger, enter the world of Ingrid Grimm, where magic and monsters come together.
Book Review
The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on May 11, 2018
There are stories about someone named Alice who travelled through the looking glass. For this Alice, the mirror is a gateway towards a fond wish for happiness never seeming to be. Perhaps the incubus on the other side of the mirror has the same need too.
The work is a mixture of fantasy and mystery with a bit of an incubus erotica tone here and there to add some spice to the story. It’s so dearly melancholy throughout, the characters are very much lost and uncertain and it’s very telling how things work out between the two of them.
While there are moments of erotica, some of which are a bit over the top, the story really is less about that overall. It is very much a character development story with a purpose and I think that comes out well here overall.
Shadeheart, the incubus of the story, is in some aspects an incubus and in others very much undefined. He exists for Alice, becomes what she wishes for, and give to her needs throughout the story. He’s not evil per se, more lonely really and he becomes a different sort of incubus than what one might, and others in the story did, expect him to be.
Three out of five pitchforks.
It is a very unique story with unique characters and I thought the story was really interesting. With that said, how the story closed was something of a disappointment, mainly in that it sort of summarized the future for Alice and Shadeheart when I think seeing that unfold would have added some needed depth overall.
