Plot Summary
Thousands of years ago, seven ancient demons of incredible power were sealed away within seven magical artifacts. The demon chains were forged to contain their evil powers, but even the greatest of magic couldn't harness them fully. In time, the chains passed into legend and were forgotten by most.
In the ruins of Dar'Kasha, Jalissa hunts for lost treasures. She's a pilferer, a scavenger, wandering the world in search of artifacts to sell. When she uncovers a hidden chamber, the treasure she finds within is one that will exact a terrible price on her, instead. Within this forgotten room, in the dusty fingers of a desiccated skeleton, is a gem-laden chain that glows with its own magical light. The thing seems to sing to her, to call to her, urging her to bear it from the darkness. What Jalissa doesn't realize, is that she's just carried forth an ancient evil. And it's one that's begun to consume her soul from the moment she touched it.
Now, she's in a race against time, fighting the demon's compulsions and her own temptation. She finds herself in the company of a less-than-competent mage, with the demon's power growing as it uses her body to feed. Before it can consume her, she'll need to find a way to free herself from its vile hold or perish in the attempt.
Book Review
The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on July 18, 2025
The search for treasures can be an adventure, the dangers and mysteries just a means to the end of getting paid for what is found. But Jalissa has found something that craves and demands all she can give. Being cursed by a demon, the battle churns within and without. If only the fates could give her relief from the trap within herself.
The work is a very detailed and complex story of adventure with a bit of something close to a succubus possession theme on the edge of story to add some spice and erotic tones. While there are some erotic scenes, they aren’t central to the story, more an aspect of the battle the character Jalissa has within herself in trying to deal with the demon that has possessed and is trying to overcome and return to life.
The writing is very textured, the characters develop throughout the story, and it is a very enjoyable read. It is complicated at times, there’s a bit of wandering here and there until things settle into the main plot once more.
The succubus of the work, who is never named, but referred to as Succubi, is something of a ghost in the story. A threat that grows over time, a power to be reckoned with. But they aren’t really part of the story so much as a ongoing complication with consequences that nibbles at Jalissa throughout until the climax of the story, the resolution and the aftermath.
Three and a half out of five pitchforks.
It’s far more a story of adventure, struggle and promise than a succubus story. A very good read, the story, characters and adventure is quite well told. How things end felt a bit rushed, a little too formulaic overall, however. There’s a missing piece, a small bit of closure that is suggested, and helps to close the story, but I would have liked somehow something better for the fates of the main characters nonetheless.
