Book Review
The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on September 8, 2024
Kristanna is a young succubus caught between her needs, her reality, and the world around her. It’s not the easiest thing to do when her futa side comes out to play and more so when the choices made might be not the best of ideas.
The work is something of a journey of self-discovery for the main character Kristanna, both in her succubus and futa natures, but more so in trying to come to terms with herself. Being she is a very, very young succubus and having really no clear idea of herself and her nature, that’s a deeply involved and interesting part of the story.
Mixed into that aspect is a bit of an adventure, some scattered erotic scenes which are mainly of Kristanna’s futa nature and not really that much of her succubus one. The erotica is somewhat tepid overall, there’s a lot of heat missing which takes things over the top as a lot of futa stories do. It’s a shame as while she is a futa, her succubus nature needed to be explored more than it really was.
The moments of internal monologue had some fascinating moments which I enjoyed however. But the overall dialogue felt a bit wooden and lifeless much of the time. Some of the characters were in the story, but not really part of it other than to be drawn into another sex scene with Kristanna. As such, the story wanders a lot, seeking the next event in the story and taking some time to get there. Overall another editing pass would have helped a lot to make the work better than it is.
I do want to suggest that the author write a better book summary than they did as it is rather thin and doesn’t give a good idea of what their work is about. Something over three hundred pages in length really should have a better summery than a single sentence.
Three out of five pitchforks.
Where the work ends leaves a very clear path to a follow on story. That’s interesting and perhaps that will appear. If so, then honestly there’s a lot about Kristanna, and succubi in this universe, that needs to be explored. There’s a lot of open threads as well needing closure too. But if so, then there needs to be a lot more focus on the storytelling by far.
