Book Review
The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on June 24, 2025
The work Succubus Blues in this collection tells the story of a nerd called Wyatt and Lilith, a succubus whose nature is to tempt and devour souls. But a deal is a deal, and if the deal is crafted the right way, perhaps even Lilith can find something more than just a soul.
The work tells of the games played, both sexual and physical between the main characters, but also the mind games which they put upon each other. It’s a struggle for power in a way with a hint of something more beyond that for both of them. While there are some horror aspects, they aren’t overwhelming or take away from the two characters and their battle to find their own answers.
Lilith, the succubus of the work, is very much a demoness, but there’s a hint of seduction and temptation that mixes in and makes her really quite intriguing. She can be so very evil and destructive, it is her nature after all to be so. But she’s not stereotypical which made her very attractive as a character. It’s what isn’t told about her that I wonder about, the secrets that she doesn’t reveal. She’s unique and with Wyatt trying to tame her in a way, that creates something really special.
Four out of five pitchforks.
How the work comes to a close leaves a lot to wonder about and, honestly, this would make a telling novel to take these two characters and push the story through to wherever it might end. That likely will never happen, but with that said, it is a story that is very much a page turner and I enjoyed the dance that Lilith and Wyatt had by far.
For the collection has a whole, three and a half out of five pitchforks.
The horror aspects in the rest of the collection were far more present in them, and at points I felt like something was taken away from the story and characters. That’s not to say they aren’t well written, not at all. It’s more that I have a specific interest which Succubus Blues captured and the rest of the book didn’t quite have the same attraction for me.
