One should never tempt fate and doing so with succubi and incubi can have unexpected results. Someone has to face the evil brought to bear and the web that has come to pass. Perhaps they can even figure out what they want as well.
The work is a fantasy adventure with a bit of a succubus and incubus theme mixed in. The main part of the story comes from the plot which creates an evil king who is partly a demon, and those that are again them. It’s a rather complicated plot, the story tends to move quickly from moment to moment save for a few points where there is a need to have some exposition appear.
It’s not a work of erotica however, even if there is a succubus and an incubus appearing. Their appearance is more for the sake of plot with a bit of heat on the edge which really doesn’t add much, but it’s not meant to. They are meant to be beings of evil with an evil purpose and as such they fill that role really well.
The succubus and incubus of the story, who are never named, are not quite stereotypically evil, but they are very much on the edge of being so, Their scenes are quite well done in an doing evil sort of way, which I thought worked well. But they are fleetingly in the story and then disappear, which is a shame. Their son, who is partly a demon, is very much stereotypical in many ways and some of his dialogue was really over the top. With that said, developing all three might be the missing part here as it feels like there could have been a lot of story gained by doing so.
Three out of five pitchforks.
It is an interesting story, but the succubus and incubus are a means to an end and then disappear. I understand that, but perhaps having them lurking and plotting in the background might have added a bit of future jeopardy. With that said, the work could use another editing pass, some of the narrative and dialogue feels off and missing some passion and emotion. Still an interesting concept to think about.
