Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on September 4, 2018

The darkness of a soul can never be truly understood save for the one who dances with darkness. A choice brings Mary to become a succubus thirsting for revenge and she will have that and more.

The work is a darkly moody story of loss, helplessness and a measure of revenge wrapped around a succubus erotica theme. It’s so very dark in tone from the start to the end, the feeling of loss and grief carries with the main character throughout. While there is a measure of erotica at the close, it’s something harsh and evil. toned with a revenge incomplete and to be continued.

The succubi of the work, Mary and Sara, have all of the aspects of succubi, but ones of a nature which surrounds them with their grief and loss, the means of their loss of humanity, and the craving for revenge. It’s a bit glossed over in how that happens, their powers and so on however. It’s that aspect of the story that might have been interning to take a bit of time to explore, to make Sara more central to the story and not just appearing for a moment between Mary becoming a succubus and then seeking her revenge.

Two and a half out of five pitchforks.

The work ends as the balance of the story is, in a melancholy place and tone. That makes sense with the story, theme and characters. At the same time there’s a thread left towards the possibility of a following story, but that never came to be. It’s a shame really as there is a lot of mythos unexplored and it would have been an interesting thing to see unfold.
