Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on March 3, 2023

Rose has a problem. It’s not being a vampire, she’s getting used to that. The problem is that someone wants her to steal something very unique for them. But then not all deals are as they seem, and this deal might become something far more problematic.

The work is mostly an action adventure with a main character that is a vampire, and another character that is an incubus. It’s mainly focused on the adventure part of things, there’s no erotica, there’s no real appearance of the incubus either. It’s at most points a tease, drawn out, until the climax of the work takes the main character to the conclusion of the story.

Matej, the incubus of the work, is barely in the story. He’s described as an incubus, he acts, to an extent, as an incubus, but he’s far more a tool for the story to use. Overall, he is an evil henchman than anything else and the just isn’t fleshed out very much.

It’s really not an incubus story, even if there is one to be found in the pages. The story is interesting, but it just doesn’t do much with the incubus other than what you might expect from a stereotypical one. Similarly there’s not much vampire in the work either and as a result, it’s an adventure, very Lara Croft like in tone, and sets other possibilities aside.

Two and a half out of five pitchforks.

It’s interesting in concept, and would be a good start to a series. As things are, it’s barely a story about a vampire and much lesser so a story about an incubus. It could have been a lot more and it’s a shame it wasn’t.
