Plot Summary

Jane is a paranormal investigator on the hardest (and wettest) assignment of her life. An old bed-and-breakfast is haunted by a sexually voracious male demon named Auluxor. Not even strong-willed Jane can resist his supernatural powers of seduction, which keep drawing Jane back to him for more. Complicating things even more, this incubus is looking to reproduce, and thinks he's found perfect mother material.

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on February 21, 2017

Jane tells the story of her encounter with an incubus and what happens to her, around her, and beyond. Not all creatures are single minded, but when it comes to an incubus, they most certainly are.

The work reads as mainly a series of porn scenes interspersed with a little bit of plot along the way. Written from Jane’s perspective, her character’s tone makes things read oddly overall. While that defines her character, some of the running commentary suggests she’s less an investigator than she is a porn starlet in the middle of a porn movie. As well, the story is very short, the creation of Jane’s world is interesting, really I would have liked more about her overall than what was revealed, but the porn aspects of the work kept getting in the way of telling her story.

The incubus, Auluxor, is brutally dominant, quite over the top in his being, and just felt too much like a stereotypical male demon looking for a woman to control and do things to. He is a thin character, really having less than a stellar personality and little or no emotional bearing save for the sex drive that consumes him, and through him, Jane as well.

When they finally come face to face, the plot falls away, the porn scene begins. It isn’t erotica, there’s no emotional connection, Jane is at Auluxor’s mercy. The end result of the encounter is clearly noted in the book summary, it doesn’t come at all as a surprise. The work ends on a note which seems to be at conflict with the beginning of the work and how the story was framed.

Lacking in heat, the sex scenes didn’t have anything that attracted me, nor did Auluxor’s domination of Jane. There was a feeling of a “fantasy” domination which just took Jane’s character from having some strength and turning her into a slave, not a submissive, there is a difference, to Auluxor.

The work needs another editing pass, there are a number of spelling mistakes, the story is told in a monotone for the most part which makes the text a bit difficult to read. Auluxor has no depth, Jane’s character is sadly not taken very far. There’s almost a helpless resignation to events at one point which I think reflects my feelings about this work. I resigned myself to a story that didn’t grow, didn’t go anywhere and resulted in an ending that was telegraphed long before the story started.

Two out of five pitchforks.

Overall the work is more porn than erotica, the characters are rather two-dimensional overall. There’s a real need for more editing, better prose, and something more than just sex. There is a plot, it tries to be something in the work, but it just can’t get past the constant sexual drives which control the work as a whole.
