Plot Summary

Plucky and vivacious, Faith Edwards is a Succubus masquerading as a third-grade teacher to keep her demonic ancestry a secret. She is the daughter and sole surviving member of a prestigious clan of demons that once called the small mountain town of Telluride Colorado home. Under the constant threat of being forcefully summoned away from their snowy sanctuary by anyone with an internet connection or library-borrowed spellbook, the Telluride Succubi abstain from feeding to the point of starvation, if only to be less noticeable to their would-be captors. But when a lustful Dean threatens to blow her cover by haunting her in death, her only hope comes in the most unlikely of saviors; a Catholic Priest.

Captivating and ambitious, Father Cheol Shin is an ordained clergyman who specializes in making dead things wish they'd never been born. An exorcist, he is constantly fighting to escape the shadow of his elder brother, and famed monster hunter in his own right, Aleister Shin. When he recognizes Faith for what she is, he takes a page right out of Vatican history and decides to form an alliance; her power in exchange for his protection. And with a vengeful, voyeuristic ghost on their heels, it couldn't have come at a better time.

Passion, sacrifice and lust boil to a head at Gothic Telluride Academy. And between a starving demon and a Priest who will stop at nothing to accomplish his goals, anything standing in their way is in for a world of pain.

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on December 16, 2018

there are things worse than death for succubi and Faith is well aware of them. She is the last of her kind and wishes to be left alone. But there are forces with other plans and the one choice she has might not be that much of one in the end.

The work is a short story of mystery and erotica which has something of a slow burn towards the climax. It is something between an opening gambit and a lesson taught for the characters at the heart of the story and offers quite a lot overall.

While there is an erotic aspect to the work, it’s very much not the point here. The work focuses on setting up the word, the characters and the dangers they face before the main characters become entangled is a somewhat over the top erotic scene before the story comes to a close.

Faith Edwards, the succubus of the story, has succubus aspects to her, and she exposes she is a succubus as well, but overall those aspects really don’t quite come to the fore. They are pressed back by the circumstance she finds herself in and it’s really only at the very last page that her nature begins to emerge and that is for aware moment before the story closes.

Three out of five pitchforks.

The work closes in an interesting place, if abruptly so. It’s a shame that the series that was meant to follow never did. Faith is unique and to see her character develop more over time would have been interesting. Beyond that, the thread left open are many and there seemed to be a good place for things to go.
