Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on March 1, 2026

It was meant to happen, a collision of two souls, a need carried by both and consuming in the fires of passion. But not all dreams are what they seem, there can be a thread of darkness within the light. The question becomes what one is willing to do to have their dreams be with them forever.

The work is a very complicated story of passion and desire wrapped around a lesbian love affair with a succubus. Focused on the main character Aria and her succubus lover Lyra, it follows their relationship from the first glimpse through a battle for their desires to the climax of them coming to accept each other and themselves as well.

There’s a very strong domination theme, but it’s not quite over the two, being tempered with seduction and a bit of amusement that I thought worked really well to bring depth to the main characters and keep them from being too stereotypical as well.

Lyra, the succubus of the story, is very much dominant, she has a certain tone and presence throughout which at times can be a little jarring. That’s mainly in the sharpness of that tone more than anything else. She’s not exactly evil, though there is a dark edge to be found as the story is told. She’s mischievous, naughty, and has a teasing air to her when she turns her attention fully to Aria and I rather adored that.

The work could use a bit more editing, mostly in how so many of the chapters close with the same, or very similar, words and thoughts. It’s a bit jarring really, a little bump in the storytelling and really it didn’t add a lot when the rest of the story did so well otherwise.

Three and a half out of five pitchforks.

The works comes to a quite satisfying close for the main characters and there’s a feeling of hope and passion that finally comes to crest in just the right way. It would be interesting to see Lyra and Aria’s afterwards, more than it was, for the sake of all that came before and what the two characters needed to have.
