Horrific acts bring about revenge that is everlasting. A tale of choices made, a woman suffering, and the succubus she becomes who seeks revenge of her own making.
The work is a rather complicated and elaborate horror story at the centre with a bit of a succubus theme scattered here and there as a result of the overwhelming darkness, horror and suffering that the main character has cast upon her and the aftermath of her being the succubus she becomes.
While there are some erotic scenes and moments, they have really no heat, no passion and are a means to an end. They exist to drive towards the main character’s succubus nature, the moment she takes from them, and then the story casts things aside for flashbacks to the past and present.
It is very much a horror story along with a lot of abuse and other darker themes which I didn’t enjoy as they are not interesting to me, feeling a bit stereotypical. There is character development however in the main character which had its moments however, but again the themes of darkness, revenge and horror took away from that to an extent.
Millie, the succubus of the story, is something of a forced evil succubus, her past and the curse that befalls her fits that aspect. At the same time, she is very clinical in her thoughts, almost emotionless and monotone. She is right on the edge of being stereotypically evil, but there are shades to that. Her true form is different and her existence as a succubus is slightly different from the normal which did interest me. I just wanted more than her being consumed by her past than she is.
Two and a half out of five pitchforks.
It’s a bit too much horror and too much darkness for my liking. The story is interesting, the characters have their moments, but overall it just didn’t have the appeal I expected. There is a point to that of course, the story has a specific focus after all. With that said, a story with the main character being dislikable from the beginning just is a shame. More so when the story itself I really didn’t find enjoyment, or a succubus to care about, within the pages.
