Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on May 5, 2026

Lillian lives, but it is turning the pages and caring little for all else. When Julien appears, the passion of an incubus nat give rise to the part of one woman’s soul that has been missing for far too long.

The work is a mixture of emotional loss, supernatural desires, and the merging of hidden desire against he telling reality of the mundane. Very atmospheric, the connections made between the main characters take time to develop and be explored and I think that worked well.

Whil there are moments of passion, the work isn’t quite focused on the erotic for the most part. The heat is a little muted, the dialogue in those moments lacks the passion the moment suggests. It does feel like those considerations have a lot to do with the main character Lillian as she feels the life she has dragging on her and the unbridled need that Julien gives.

Julien, the incubus of the story, is anything but stereotypical and quite thankfully so. He is passion, desire, want and need, but there’s no sense of evil intent with him. Perhaps a bit of a tease, a little abstract at times, when the connection is made, and Lilian and Julien finally make their choices, it really does matter and it takes what otherwise was a story seeking focus to where it needed to be.

Three out of five pitchforks.

The postscript close the story well and offers something of a soothing delight and connection for the main characters. Overall I enjoyed the story and hoe things unfolded, save for a few points where a little less atmosphere and a bit more emotional climax would have been a delight. The passion is there, but it’s not quite what I had hoped it might have been.
