Lilitu is a large scale vinyl figurine created by Tara McPherson and manufactured by KidRobot.

In 2010, the artist Tara McPherson created a work of art for the Dark Pop exhibition at the Last Rites Gallery in New York City called Lilitu. Originally painted on linen with oil paints, the art featured the image of a dark skinned naked woman with long red hair rising from a pool of water holding a severed male head.

The art was transformed into a vinyl figurine by KidRobot in 2011 that stands approximately eight inches in height. The figurine displays Lilitu in a similar pose to the painting that inspired the work, but without her holding the severed male head of the original work. The figurine was released as a limited edition production run with a total of only 200 figurines and a selling price of $250 US. The figurine was completely sold out long before it was produced.

Description

The artist described the work as showing a representation of the Sumerian myth of the demon Lilitu. According to that myth, she represents chaos, seduction and ungodliness. She is a sexually charged yet infertile succubus who behaves aggressively toward men and children killing them at a whim. In all of her forms, she has cast an evil spell on humankind.

There is no hiding. A succubus walks. Lilitu. Sexually charged, violently destructive, A Sumerian myth, a demon to be feared. To love and to kill without remorse, one man at a time. The unsuspecting only see the near-perfect human likeness – enticing eyes, supple mouth, lithe body - little noticed are the breasts of dripping poison and malicious intent. Emerging from the cool, smoky depths, fresh from one kill, looking for the next, Lilitu is poised to allure. Calculated stance, intimately glossy, designed for desire – come nefarious courtesan. Who can resist?
