Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on May 4, 2018

A violent storm brings Stefan into the clutches of two otherworldly woman with designs upon him. It seems all a dream, but in truth they are succubi seeking his soul and none can resist them.

The work is a mixture of mystery and adventure with a strong focus on succubus erotica in many of its forms, not the least of which are aspects of mind control, sexual attraction and the devouring of souls they seek. It’s a bit of a long drawn out preamble until the main character becomes entangled with Marina, one of the succubi, and starts his fall to her as the other succubus, Eleanor, gloats and relishes his eventual demise and what that allows the succubi to do.

Both Marina and Eleanor are evil in their own ways as succubi, but they are more sensual and seductresses through much of the story before their natures take over and all that matters is the hunt, the hunger and the taking of souls. Described wonderfully, they aren’t quite stereotypical in their nature, each has a clear personality and it’s also clear there’s a bit of hidden conflict between them that is really interesting as well.

With that said, there’s really very little told about succubi in this story universe. It is sort of skimmed over, rushed past, on the way to the erotica and it felt like a shame. The hints are so very intriguing and more reflection by Eleanor of her past, a flashback perhaps of how she entrapped others to solidify her presence on the mortal plane would have been so very interesting too.

Three and a half out of five pitchforks.

It is a delightfully well told story of succubus erotica in many forms and overall this offered quite a lot for the series going forwards. Except that the series didn’t follow, the story of Marina and Eleanor didn’t continue, and that’s honestly a shame. Yes, it is a dark story with darker characters, but there was a lot to offer here and it really should have been all things considered.
