Plot Summary

There’s a direct correlation between sexual experience and magic potential. Everyone knows that. That’s why it’s so hard for Puun, a first-year student at the prestigious Elfton University, to catch up with his fellow students. As a closeted gay man, he's not even sure whom he could ask for help.

Desperate and unable to find release, he turns to one thing that can guarantee success. If he can't find a boyfriend, he has to summon one.

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on May 5, 2023

Puun has issues with school and the list is as long as his arm. If it isn’t his magic being poor, it’s the lack of faith in himself and if that’s not enough, being gay, alone and never finding passion tolls on him. But when push comes to shove, the help he needs might only come from the incubus he summons to teach the lesson.

The work is a coming of age story from the perspective of the main character that tells a complex and well versed story. The emotional aspects tell of the toll that Puun undergoes and offer a glimpse of his internal struggles. While this takes some time to lay down the plot and characters, it’s done in a way which makes one feel for all he is going through.

Beyond the lack of belief in himself comes the sexual frustration he has, both in being alone and hiding his true sexual self. This pushes him towards the summoning of an incubus and the erotica of the story follows on from there.

The incubus, who is never named, is sexually alluring and powerful erotically. But it’s his teaching of Puun some basic truths about himself before they become intimate that delighted me. He’s not really evil, though very naughty and beyond that he is a character with depth that brings a lot to the story well before the erotica.

The erotica is a male/male story which has lovely heat, if occasionally dipping into some adult movie moments. Still, that doesn’t take away form the heat, nor does it remove the connection between the main characters and that worked really well.

While there is an incubus in the story, and he does have a meaningful presence, overall this isn’t quite so much as story about the incubus as it is about the main character’s growth. I think that worked really well and it made for a lovely read.

Four out of five pitchforks.

It’s a shame the incubus was never named, but in the context of the story that does make sense. The work ends on a note that offers a path towards the possibility of making this into a series and I think that would be an interesting place to take things. Seeing what happens next to Puun, how he matures and what place the incubus might have would be nice to see.
