Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on October 4, 2022

Celia craves a certain kind of lover. Not kind but controlling. Dominant and powerful. She wants to be used in all of the dark ways her desires demand of her. Opening the door to the otherworldly she may well have all she needs and more than she expected.

The work is a slowly building hot flash of BDSM erotica with a very strong male dominant theme to it. The majority of the work isn’t precisely focused on that however. More than two-thirds is a telling of Celia being teased by Balam, the incubus of the work, in many interesting ways.

That tease has lovely heat in it and Balam isn’t even present through much of that. The descriptions of what happens to Celia both in her dreams and the reality she finds herself in works so very well in building the heat in the story.

Balam is mostly a stereotypical incubus when he appears, being extremely dominant and controlling. It’s a shame how far that’s taken when two characters actually come into contact with each other. It’s harsh, demanding, and feels a bit too far into the realm of low heat adult movie passion overall. The teasing evaporates leaving Balam to take control and press Celia to her knees and submit.

What comes is a pregnancy obsession erotic work at the core with some BDSM around the edges to make things happen. For some the dominance will be attractive as will the change of tone from the balance of the work. But that didn’t work for me overall, mainly in that Balam’s entrapment of Celia was far more passionate and had a far more delightful submission being drawn out.

The story, both in descriptiveness and plot is really well done for the most part. There’s a real sense of heat, mystery and temptation that works well right until the climax comes. While what follows makes sense for both characters, I just expected something more beyond the sex that caps things off.

Three out of five pitchforks.

The build up was far more interesting than the climax by far. While there was some heat to bring the story to a conclusion it wasn’t anything as captivating as the tease that came before. Perhaps something more of the tease within the dominance at the end would have brought more passion than what seemed to be there.
