Plot Summary

He messed around... and found out.

She’s gorgeous. Deadly. And technically… not even alive.

Malik Garrett has it all—money, power, and a wife who tolerates his silence. But after one chance encounter with a mysterious woman named Vanity, he finds himself breaking vows, laws of nature, and maybe even reality.

Vanity isn’t just trouble. She’s a succubus. A literal soul-sucking demon with curves that kill and a gaze that could make a man forget his own name—and address—and wife.

What starts as a fling turns into a full-blown haunting.

His business starts to crumble. His marriage combusts. And his reflection doesn’t even recognize him anymore (probably because it’s watching him back).

To survive, Malik must seek help from twin priestesses, sacred rituals, and maybe stop thinking with the wrong head for five minutes.

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on January 13, 2026

Malik has everything he could possibly want, except that his love Kayla has become distant and the spark is fading away. Drawn away to a party, he meets Vanity who is everything he could desire. She is a succubus after all. The price to be paid is high, and it becomes higher still when Vanity doesn’t get what she wants.

The work is a mixture of fantasy, mystery and the telling of the downfall of the main character to the evil that has latched itself onto him. While there are some erotic scenes, it’s really not very much that sort of story overall. The focus is on the main character trying to come to terms with Vanity, the succubus of the work, having her mark on him and trying to break free. What follows is a rather complicated story of regret, choices and a bit of redemption by the end.

With that said, the story is focused on the main character and as for Vanity, she’s part of the story here and there, but really becomes something of an extensional threat, being referred to by others, appearing at times to threaten, and then disappearing once more. As that happens, the story tends to turn on itself at times, placing the main character in situations that have a lot of promise, but the chapters seem a bit rushed and missing something at the same time.

Vanity, the succubus of the work, is very much evil with a very seductive edge. There’s a presence when she appears, her voice is stronger than the other characters by far. Very cold and calculating when the main character turns from her, she becomes something beyond what one might expect from a succubus, turning into the embodiment of evil. I really wanted more to be told about her, to delve into her past, the power she is, but that felt skimmed over and it was a little disappointing considering the presence she has.

Three out of five pitchforks.

Vanity was too much of a shadow for the majority of the story and that really was a shame. When she appeared, it was striking and powerful, but then she just left the story before appearing later again. Perhaps making her a little less a mystery and more of a force to be reckoned with is the missing part of the story here. With that said, the work could use an editing pass to bring more emotion to the dialogue and add more depth to the story. It is quite delightful overall, but with a little more added to the characters and the storytelling, this would be so much more.
