Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on October 3, 2021

Blaire has been running from a horrific moment, seeking but not finding solace. Lost and with little choice, she enters the domain of Daven, an incubus with his own secrets. But in the encounter comes the possibility of what each needs, if they are willing to risk each other.

The work is a mystery with a bit of horror and erotica on the edges to make it interesting. There’s some very interesting background told and it gives the concept of incubi and succubi a slant that is somewhat rare. In that comes both the demonic influences but also some vampiric ones as well. It’s when the main characters are trying to sort themselves out that something unique comes to pass.

The incubus of the work, Daven, isn’t quite stereotypical, the things he explains about his kind, what he personally believes in, and what he seeks, are delightfully promising. It’s the exploration of those needs and desires with Blaire that lead to a lot of character development overall.

The single issue with this work is the number of spelling, tease and capitalization issues. Another editing pass would really make a difference. The story is a good one, but it just reads oddly and the numerous tense and capitalization issues don’t do the work any good at all. Still, Blaire and Drven’s world is promising and there’s something here to build on. Perhaps that’s a good place to start.

Three out of five pitchforks.

A good story which is flawed through the errors that get in the way of the telling. I’ll hope the author reedits and perhaps builds on the story to make it what it should be.
