Plot Summary
Wait, powerful and strange, has seen a lot of weird, terrible shit in the past few centuries, but he’s still smiling. While he doesn’t let much get him down, searching for the king’s missing consort has gotten pretty tiresome.
Kind, timid Calyssa feels like she has been running from demons all her life. She’s learned to ignore the frightening things she sees and keep her mouth shut about them. But what is she supposed to do when they start trying to seduce her?
Sometimes the only way to escape is to stop running.
Book Review
The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on May 15, 2018
There is a truth within Calyssa that she cannot understand. Her humanity shades the truth of her being a succubus. What that means is uncertain and the future even more so. Perhaps a knight in shining armour will help find a way.
The work is a character development story with a bit of erotica around the edges and a main character who is a succubus, but being so that reality is very much a mystery from the beginning pages. There’s also quite a lot of political intrigue cast about which complicates the story even more.
As the story is focused on Calyssa, there are point at which her succubus nature tries to emerge but her human nature and kindness takes the story in different directions. There are glimpses of her being a succubus, some of them quite unique, but overall the focus of the story is her trying to understand what’s going on and come to terms with it.
Three out of five pitchforks.
Calyssa’s mystery and how the series would take her further than her lost and uncertain self would have been interesting to see. But the series never followed and the questions remain. There was promise here, it’s a shame that what could have been never was.
