Plot Summary

Malika is trying to escape hell and get to the human world where she can finally be free of the other students at Lilith's Academy. What she's not expecting however is that if she does make it to the human world she's not going to have it any easier. She'll have to deal with angels on her tail; an incubus who seems to nice to be true, and she'll have to figure out can she get over her past and start a future here in the human world?

Kol is an incubus who's been here in the human world for a few years now. In an effort to keep fed and not starve Kol began working as an adult film star, and began feeding on his partners. Now he's on the run with Malika and hunted by angels who want them dead for what they are.

Will they be able to escape the heavenly hunters? Or will they be forced to seek refuge somewhere where boring is the norm?

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on July 22, 2022

Malika has had quite enough of the underworld. A chance to escape to Earth, to find something better than what she’s been pressed towards can’t be resisted. For Kol, life is good enough, he doesn’t need complications. Sometimes what you have isn’t exactly what you discover you need.

The work is a fantasy-adventure set in the current day with some interesting plot ideas which bring the characters from their lacklustre beginning towards something more. It’s complicated, there’s a lot of things going on throughout. It’s not really erotica overall, though there are some passing scenes that pop ip from time to time.

Kol, the incubus of the work, is very much a puzzle both to Malika and himself. Yes, his need for sex to survive comes to the fore often, but it’s not really in a stereotypical way. I will admit that the first scene with him and what happens amused me, but it made a lot of sense. He’s a bit quirkily, moody on occasion, but that complexity brought a lot out in his character over the course of the story.

Malika, in her own way, is perhaps even more complicated. She’s lost both in herself and the situation she finds herself in. But there’s a desire, a need, a want that presses her onwards and the author just makes her adorable by the little quirks that pop up.

The writing is very good, there’s nothing that really took me out of the story. I would have liked a bit more confrontation between them rather than Malika expressing what she wanted to do, then hiding it away. I realize that’s a means to build tension and grow both characters, but there comes a point where saying “I’m sorry” can take the story and the characters in a direction that offers a lot more than the frustration that each holds inside.

Four out of five pitchforks.

It’s a very emotional story, the characters battle with themselves, their nature and all that transpires around them. I dearly love the work and I hope the series going forwards will be able to sustain the needs which Malika and Kol find in their lives.
