Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on November 21, 2023

Avery doesn’t mind her best friend is getting married all that much. What does bother her is her sex life being nonexistent, the future not looking much better and an itch that’s starting to be a pain. But life can open doors when you least expect it, and the advise you are given might make your wildest unspoken dreams a reality. All Avery has to do is get over the fact that she’s summoned an incubus and Ciaran is very attracted to her and as for Avery, her own attraction speaks volumes.

The work is a fast-paced combination of fantasy and romance with a wonderfully fun and wicked incubus to carry the erotica as the story unfolds. The characters are complex, if perhaps a bit laser focused on sex for much of the story. That’s not a bad thing, it’s core to what happens after all.

The heat between Avery and Ciaran simmers from the moment he appears and there’s no question that he is an incubus. But Ciaran doesn’t seem stereotypical, he’s something of a professional tease, pushes all of Avery’s buttons in just the right way and in doing so their entanglement is wonderfully told.

Both Avery and Ciaran are strongly written and there are aspects of each that aren’t explored quite yet, but are hinted at and suggest a very complicated series will follow. Really it’s the humor of Avery coming to terms with Ciaran in both his human and devil forms that brought me a smile. Similarly, Ciaran holding things very close to himself and, perhaps a little bit, misdirecting Avery into the relationship that forms gives something for the series to explore the effects of. It’s just a lot of fun and a delicious story about a very naughty incubus.

It’s a delightfully fun and quirky start to the series and honestly, I cannot wait for what comes next. It’s a little uncertain and mixed-up direction-wise but that reflects on Avery being completely out of her depth. With all of the hints and things otherwise hidden from Avery, I do wonder if what seems to be suggested will happen. That could be very interesting, and I hope that happens.

Ciaran’s personality, along with whatever he’s hiding from Avery will bring some conflict I’m sure, but at the same time I have a feeling that, if the story shifts towards Avery being transformed into a succubus, which seems really possible with all of the side looks and glances, would take the story in unexpected directions. Even if it doesn’t, there is lots of plot and characters to explore and see what happens. I look forward to the next book in the series and I expect to have my amusement continued.

Four out of five pitchforks.

Just a lot of fun with an incubus character who isn’t stereotypical or what you might expect them to be. There’s a lot of promise for the series going forwards, the humor and snark is just wonderful. Well worth a read and I hope the author will continue the series onwards soon.
