Plot Summary

A decade ago, the world split into pieces. Unfortunately, most of us had to continue living in it.

Surviving is hard enough when most of the world just disappears, but when you’re hunted by dark monsters and demons, it’s even worse. There is nothing to be done, though. Just fight another day, try to endure, try to ensure your loved ones survive with you, and fail at it, because what else was new?

Some days, not even the new wonders of the world made me want to keep going. Be it the monster girls that saved my life and helped us create a new safe haven for ourselves – Beacon – be it the sights of fantasy creatures that I would have never imagined were real.

Now a new threat assails Beacon, and I know I’ll have to do something foolish to keep everyone safe and embark on a dangerous adventure. I won’t be alone, though.

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on July 18, 2023

The world has changed and Tiago exists in the remnants. Monsters and other dark creates exist, but so do those of light and, sometimes, even love. A threat approaches his friends and he sees no other alternative but to defend with his life. A choice made brings him to be the host for a succubus called L’Annaniel and she has plans of her own, should he fail or give her free reign. What would you do to protect what you hold dear? That’s a question Tiago will ask himself over and over again.

The work is mainly a fantasy adventure which follows the main character as he tries to do the best he can for those around him. There’s battles, moments of joy and loss, terror and temptation. Along the way he finds himself carrying in his mind a powerful succubus with her own agenda from whom he cannot escape, even in dreams.

This isn’t really a work about a succubus, it’s very much focused on the threat being faced and how the characters battle against it. That said, the succubus of the work, L’Annaniel, is very interesting for what she represents and what she does, or rather, doesn’t do. She is never physically present in the story, though within the main character’s dreamscape she appears in her succubus form, among others, to poke and prod at him. Occasionally helpful, she’s very much the temptress and it’s that aspect of her that was interesting.

She calls herself a succubae queen and her personality reflect that well. In the one instance when her powers are truly seen as she is possessing the main character, she’s also a force who’s powers are unstoppable when unleashed. At the same time, there’s something hidden about her which lurks in the interplay between herself and Tiago. In those moments she’s the devil on his shoulder, possibly with a heart of gold, but that might just be a means to an end.

Written well, the action scenes are very good, the characters are much more so. There’s a good deal of character development explored, there’s history to explore in this story universe as well. While there are some erotic passages, this isn’t really a work of erotica so much as it is a fantasy story with a bit of heat around the edges. Nonetheless, it is a well told story that holds your attention and I liked that very much. It’s a shame however that L’Annaniel is uses so sparingly.

Three and a half out of five pitchforks.

L’Annaniel is absolutely a succubus, without question. She’s a schemer, a force to be reckoned with and every bit the simmering evil she is meant to be. But there’s more to her that was hinted at and not explored. She’s so very unique and how the series will develop her will be interesting to watch unfold. There well may be a hint of where that plot thread will go from the first encounter, perhaps not. Whichever it is, either will prove to be transformative in more than one way for the characters involved.
