Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on March 10, 2023

Ann awakes to find herself at the mercy of her captor, one who needs something from her as much as she needs something from him. But neither expects what comes from the truth or what happens when Ann’s true nature is revealed.

The work is mainly a BDSM story with kidnapping theme aspects and a pregnancy fetish mixed into the storytelling. Overall, there’s next to no actual Succubus story to be found, save for in passing, and as such it really doesn’t tell a Succubus story.

The story is somewhat scattered, trying to find itself, but keeps returning to the male character being in control and dominating Ann as the story tells of what happens. The erotica, which is mostly BDSM themed, doesn’t really have a lot of heat to it. Ann is mostly forced, or dominated, into the erotic scenes which just lack in heat because of how lifeless they read.

Ann, described as the Succubus of the work, doesn’t actually do anything succubus-like in the story. There’s no physical appearance of horns or a tail, there’s no scenes of her using her powers as a Succubus, save for telling of doing so in passing. It feels very much like role-playing in a way which, considering the overall story, sort of fits in with other things Ann is made to do by the other character.

There’s really no passion in the storytelling between the characters as well. The male character isn’t named, or is likeable, and tends to be very dominant with little else as a character trait to tell about him. The larger issue however is a need for at least another editing pass for tone, dialogue and tense. The story reads very rough and taking another pass at the story to fix the numerous flaws really would help the story to be more than it is.

Still, this is barely a Succubus story and honestly it’s difficult to see what the point of Ann being one brings to it. Taking that small note out of the story changes nothing and seems something of a shame overall. It might have been more interesting to begin the story with Ann on the hunt and meeting the main character, or someone else, before the story’s start as it is. If nothing else that would offer something more to explore later in the story.

Three out of five pitchforks.

While Ann is described as a Succubus and explains what she wanted from the other character, there’s really nothing to show she is one otherwise. As a BDSM story it’s interesting, if scattered, in the storytelling. A bit more focus, a little more care in editing really would make this a far better read by far. But it still wouldn’t be that much of a Succubus themed story.
