Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on December 14, 2025

The truth can be hidden behind darkness, to be revealed in the most unexpected of ways. But is there an escape when the darkness is one step beyond your understanding?

The work is a very short, what I call a pamphlet, erotic story which while having an incubus theme is mainly a story of mind control than anything else with a bit of an erotic tone overall. The characters are somewhat two-dimensional, the story feels rushed throughout as well. There’s also a kind of horror theme to the overall story which then also leads into the ending which is more of a jump scare than anything else and it wasn’t really a surprise at that.

The incubi of the work are something between being stereotypical and just barely being in the story overall. They are discussed, one appears for a brief moment or two, but overall, the story doesn’t focus on them. Their effects on others is more present, the history of them is discussed, but otherwise they just aren’t really much more than the evil in the story set to the side and threatening over and over again.

Two out of five pitchforks.

The work needs another editing pass to clean up the dialogue and bring some real emotional aspects. The work overall just reads a bit flat and uninteresting overall. How the work ends really wasn’t a surprise, there were hints of what would happen fairly early on. It’s an odd story which just didn’t work for me in many ways and it needed to be better than it is.
