Plot Summary

Never use your powers while on a date... Rosie has always resisted using the MatchMater App, not wanting to accidentally use her siren magic on a date. But seeing one of her best friends properly mated, she can't resist the urge. Finding love as an incubus isn't easy, and Jim has almost given up hope. A dating app might be what he needs to change that.

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on December 6, 2019

It’s not easy finding one’s soulmate and sometimes there’s little choice but to leave things up to the fates of an app on your phone. But it’s when Rosie and Jim meet that things become complicated for them both. This isn’t a simple romance, they both have secrets to tell, when the time is right. But letting their fears constrain their happiness isn’t the path to what they both need beyond words.

The work is a lovely romance between two deeply flawed characters who’s natures have placed barriers to them finding happiness. It’s complicated, their fears bind them deeply, and in doing so they create walls between them both. It’s the slow breaking of those walls, the attraction they feel, but can’t quite trust, which twists their story into knots before the climax arrives.

There’s very little erotica to be found as this is very much a romance story first. The character development takes time, the story develops as it needs to. There are moments when the characters do extremely frustrating things, but that’s part of the story after all.

Jim, the incubus of the story, is not at all stereotypical by any means. His personality is very attractive, he has honour to uphold and it’s quite telling as the story unfolds how much he wants to make Rosie see what he does, and overcome the fear of his power, and of hers, that gets in the way so dramatically.

It’s not so much an incubus story then it is a story with an incubus as one of the characters. That aside. it’s a wonderful love story and a captivating read. Still, I’d have wanted to know more about Jim, about incubi and succubi in this universe if only to flesh out things more.

Three and a half out of five pitchforks.

A lovely romantic story about need and overcoming the fears within one’s self. The characters are unique and they grow so far from where things being. Perhaps a bit rushed in places, perhaps a bit more time to develop the relationship might have been nice too.
