Plot Summary

In the depths of hell, how does a demon find love? The day before her coming of age ceremony, when incubi fight for the right to be in her harem, succubus Delilah discovers a horrifying secret. She is part human.

It's forbidden. An abomination. But suddenly, everything makes sense. She has always felt emotion, and now she knows why. But feeling is a weakness to demons. Sex and death. That's what the demons live for. And yet, deep inside, Delilah craves for something more. Will she be able to set her emotions free? Will she find... love?

Book Review

The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on September 27, 2019

Delilah has never felt like the other succubi and she never understood why. But the truth revealed explains everything. She carries a human soul and human blood. The battle wages within herself and those pulling on her for their own needs. Something will break and whatever does the truth will serve itself.

The story is a complex tale of intrigue, self-discovery, need and, in the moments that matter, the need for love for one that needs that above all else. At the same time, the story is very harsh, dark and evil throughout with little aspect given beyond the main character trying to deal with her truth, to gather her lovers around her, and for them all to find a way out of the impeding doom that is over the horizon awaiting them.

There are aspects of erotica in the storytelling, but overall they lack the passion and desire between the characters. The dialogue is a bit monotone, the scenes felt forced and somehow rote as well. It’s a reflection of the world around them, a place where emotions are not tearsured, but destroyed.

The main character Delilah is the main succubus of the work and she’s somewhere between being like the other succubi and at the same time being apart from them. Fiercely loyal to her lovers, her personality is a bit odd and a little lost for much of the story until she has a moment of clarity and she develops as a character. Very much a succubus with horns, wings and all, there is a sense that her character arc really didn’t develop fully. As for the many other succubi and incubi characters, most are evil schemers with plots and choices made that add to being tempests in the whirlwind overall. Most are dearly stereotypical as a result and really the only characters that are interesting beyond Delilah are her incubi lovers who bring something quite unique to the story.

Three out of five pitchforks.

The story closes with a glimmer of hope, the sense of possibility and, most of all, a truth being understood. With that said, there really needs to be a follow on story to see what comes next. As for this work, it needs anther editing pass for the dialogue and the lack of passion in the narrative as well. It’s more inclined towards evil and darkness, which is after all the setting, but as the story professes to be about finding love, it needed to be more in tun with that desire.
