Plot Summary
Detective Jonah Harvey thought his life couldn’t get any darker. Still reeling from the unsolved murder of his wife, Jonah throws himself into work, investigating a series of mysterious disappearances linked to Chicago’s underworld. His latest case leads him to an upscale nightclub owned by Travis Dunham, a wealthy businessman with a sinister reputation. But when Jonah witnesses Travis’s sudden and inexplicable death—his body shriveled as if drained of life—he realizes this is no ordinary case. The prime suspect? A stunning woman in a red dress who vanished after a single, haunting glance in his direction. She is Naamah—a succubus, a demon of lust and death—and she’s taken an interest in Jonah.
Naamah offers Jonah a chilling deal: help her find and feed on the corrupt souls of Chicago's worst criminals, and in return, she will help him uncover the truth behind his wife’s brutal murder. Torn between his duty as a detective and his growing obsession with the enigmatic demoness, Jonah walks a dangerous line. Naamah is seductive, deadly, and far more powerful than she lets on. Each soul she claims brings her closer to regaining the full extent of her dark powers. As Jonah falls deeper into Chicago’s seedy underbelly, he must question his own morality. How far is he willing to go for the justice he craves? And at what cost?
But Naamah’s past hides more secrets than Jonah could imagine. As mysterious forces begin to hunt her, Jonah discovers that his wife’s murder might be linked to an ancient war between beings far beyond human comprehension. With time running out and trust running thin, Jonah must decide whether Naamah is his ally—or the greatest threat he’s ever faced. In a world where love and lust are weapons, and souls are the ultimate currency, Can a man haunted by loss resist the ultimate temptation? Or will his desire for the truth lead him into damnation?
Book Review
The following review was originally published by Tera on her Blog, A Succubi's Tale on December 7, 2025
Jonah’s past haunts him every day, there is no escaping what was, only to try and find the answer and see to it that justice is done. An encounter with the impossible brings him to the attention of Naamah, and he soon finds out that succubi are real as are so many other myths and legends. Now linked, the two must seek out the answer to what is happening and it may mean the end to everything.
The work is a mixture of mystery, adventure, revenge and romance mixed with supernatural themes and one of the main characters being a succubus. It’s very complicated, there are a lot of plots and side plots that thread their way through the book and the main characters themselves. There are aspects of erotica in the story, but they aren’t in the story for the sake of it, there is purpose and meaning to the scenes. they are not over the top by any means either. The main characters are especially a delight, their pasts matter, they develop throughout and the relationship that forms between them just works perfectly by the end.
Naamah, the succubus of the story, I just adore. She’s smart, she has a purpose, and her aspects of being a succubus are so very clear from the first page she appears to the last. While there is a edge to her, she’s less evil than naughty, which was a lot of fun. She’s also a schemer from the start, but encountering Jonah, becoming enamoured by him and he in return brings about new sides of her personality and character and it really is something special to behold.
Four out of five pitchforks.
As much as I adored this story, the ending is far, far too abrupt for everything else that happened before. It really needed more time to develop towards the ultimate fate for both main characters honestly. With that said, a follow on story about Naamah and Jonah after everything that happened would be delightful. There’s a story there to be told and it would be such a story to see. Perhaps it will someday, I think it would be just an amazing read too.
