Plot

Short Summary

A representative of the ruling Fae council, Blackthorn, arrives and declares that a new Ash must be elected as punishment for the old Ash's actions and the loss of the Elders. This involves candidates competing in a vote by the old families and then the finalists must participate in a Stag Hunt. That hunt being of a Light Fae prisoner, Sabine, that had been jailed for attempting to marry a Dark Fae. Bo becomes involved when Sabine goes to her for help in finding her love Hamish and seeing him as her last wish. Bo attempts to do so, but he refuses to do so. Bo then turns her attention to the politics and rituals of the Stag Hunt. In doing so she finds that Hale's background is more than he seems to be, discovers the candidates that wish to be the new Ash, and one that her powers seem not to work on, Lachian. The hunt takes place, Sabine is shot by Lachian and he is crowned the new Ash, and warns Bo that her life will change. Bo attempts to talk to Dyson again to mend their relationship, but fails and resigns herself to him never loving her again. Trick is confronted by Blackthorn who seems to know that Trick is the Blood King, but Trick manages to extract a promise from him not to interfere with local affairs or try to find Aife.
