Eternal is an upcoming American film being produced by Paul Verhoeven and is being supported by Sidney Kimmel Entertainment. Little is known about the movie itself, save for the suggestion that it will contain a Succubus-like creature as part of the story. The story, according to reports, follows a recovering alcoholic who has an adulterous affair with what he thinks is a living woman, but discovers that it was in fact a ghost who then proceeds to try to claim his soul in much the same way that a Succubus does. The film was in its initial stages of pre-production in mid-October 2010 with production scheduled to begin in mid-2011.

Variety reported that Paul Verhoeven would direct the film, the story being taken from a script by David Loughery, whose credits include Obsessed and Dreamscape. The script would be also rewritten by Richard D’Ovidio of Thirteen Ghosts fame. Sidney Kimmel, John Penotti, Peter Block and Charles Segars were expected to produce the film.[1]

Plot

In Eternal, a married recovering alcoholic helps a woman threatening to jump off the Golden Gate Bridge. They end up in bed, and in a torrid sexual affair. When he gets home, he’s confronted by his wife and a private investigator, with photos spread across a table. He thinks he’s busted, but the photos that should have shown him in the clinches with his mistress instead show him alone, drinking alcohol. He initially questions his own sanity, but progressively figures out that this temptress is a ghost who is after his soul.

Development

Initial reports of the existence of this film began to appear in mid-October 2010. The reports referred to the "ghost" in the films summary being a Succubus-like creature. Other reports noted that with the director's past film history, it was unlikely that the film would be focusing on the supernatural aspects of the story and probably more on the sexual aspects of the story. It was noted that filming was expected to begin in mid-2011.
