Plot Summary
My name is Rachel, and I'm going into my junior year at a prestigious east-coast university designed to cater to the needs of demons. I've got my major sorted out, I'm a straight-A student, and I've even got a pretty delicious FWB situation going on. I thought this sort of success would make me happy. I thought being inaccessible and unattached was the goal I should strive for as a succubus, but it's not. Turns out that what I've been looking for has been in my life all along, and I never realized it until this semester...

Rachel is on the fast track as an exceptional succubus. She has the looks, the attitude and the power to match. Her teachers say she’s exceptional, but there’a a truth within her that she hasn’t realized. A succubus is more than sex, seduction and power. They have needs and Rachel’s needs have met up with the one that needs her and always has.
The work is told from Rachel’s perspective and it isn’t a cold and matter of fact thing. From the beginning her internal thoughts are rich, having depth and meaning. Rachel has an image to show the world, there’s no question, but she’s deeper than her outer layers express. From the first page it is clear that Rachel isn’t quite what she appears to be on the outside much of the time. She’s strong, there’s no question, but at the same time there’s a softness which takes her character to places which are wonderful to read.
Much of that passage to discovery comes from Ellena, who isn’t quite what she appears to be at the beginning of the story as well. As her story comes to be told through Rachel’s eyes, the change they both see, within and without, gives way to something that isn’t so much erotica as it is romance. There are moments of tears, joy, aching fear, but most of all, the growth of both characters is clear and with purpose.
Beyond this the setting brings quite a number of secondary characters, some succubi or incubi in nature whether fully or partly so. Each has a strong voice, a story to tell, meaning. There are moments of story about them as well which adds to the tapestry of the plot as a whole. In particular a certain succubus professor brought a smile to me whenever she appeared. Given the depth of these characters and the overall setting, there are actually several books with of story that could be written from their lives as well, but sadly aren’t. Still, regardless, their stories aren’t tossed to the side, there is a fullness to those stories and even if that is only in passing, they are complete as well.
There is one single passage of erotica, nee romance, which isn’t out of place nor feels odd or wrong. Much of the build up to that moment is the creation of a Mistress/Pet relationship, one with a light BSDM tone. It’s one of the very few works that I have read which manages to get the tone well, doesn’t stray into being outrageous or simply wrong. The moments are right, there is adoration, passion, and trust. Wonderfully passionate at times, but also emotionally striking when that comes into play.
The writing is wonderful, the story is captivating. I loved Rachel, Ellena and all of the characters. The way they interacted, the reality of their emotions, how real the story was, irregardless of the setting itself. Beyond that, how the BDSM aspects of the story and some of the characters, was handled in a way that was correct and well done. It is a story with heart and soul that does being some tears along the way.
Five out of five pitchforks.
Just an amazing story about succubi as a whole, but beyond that, the story of discovery, acceptance is what sets this apart. Rachel’s story from beginning to end is rich and powerful, the emotional ties are amazing. Tearfully loved, I’d dearly love the author to revisit Rachel and her love at some point, to say what came in the after. But for what is here, the joy within this work was captivating and adored.
