A Moment
By TeraS

It was just before dawn in the Realm. Quiet. Calm. For those that were asleep it was still dreams and wishes…

But for one that was awake… She had something to do…

Her footsteps were soft in the wet grass around her as she came over a rise and entered the place she needed to be in that day. She did keep her promises after all… Her thoughts were focused as they always were when she came to this place…

A smile.

A hug.

A voice...

In her hands she held a teacup. Earl Grey. One lump of sugar. No cream. She came to the spot and then placed the cup there, her fingers brushing away some of the dew from the wet surface there as she did. For a moment she just stood quietly and looked at the spot. The memories rushing back as they always did here…

The joys.

The hopes.

The wishes…

She clasped her hands together and then began to speak to the air around her, telling of the days past, the things that had been happening, the feelings in her heart… The words came out in a long flood of what mattered to her, what didn’t, what was and what wasn’t…

Things missed.

Things told.

Things seen…

She closed her eyes as a gentle breeze passed through the place, her hair shifting around in its embrace, a little shiver in her body from the touch… The familiarity of it, the hope that it was… But she continued to tell her stories….

The joys.

The fears.

The life…

Finally she came to the end as the sun peeked over the edge of the horizon. The first rays of sun began to trickle onto the land around her and she turned to face the sun as she always did…

To see it.

To share it.

To know…

She turned back around to face the spot again. The stone marker in its place of honour. Marking the place where she lay. Noting for those that came here to see her, know her, love her as she did. She smiled as her fingers picked up the teacup and looked inside to see it was empty…

All gone.

All enjoyed.

All finished…

Touching two fingers to her lips, she then touched them to the stone marker and said, “Love you Mom…” And then Tera walked off into the morning dew, her heart lighter for knowing that she had been heard…

Again…

The End
