Plot Summary
One theme, two authors, two stories...
A group of suddenly homeless city dwellers take shelter in an abandoned castle with a dark reputation. They are haunted by erotic dreams of the three long dead sisters who once lived there. And then begin to disappear, one by one.
A female appraiser with fae blood is hired by a haughty aristocrat to price some antique furniture and artwork. The nobleman discovers that one of his ancestors was a student of the Marquis de Sade. And is slowly transformed by his mysterious guest into her eager, malleable plaything.

The first work by Zoe DeNoir is something of a dystopian horror erotic story with a succubus theme wrapped within a mystery and the onrushing of impending doom for the main characters. The setting is rather unique, the world building takes a bit of time and it helps to understand how the characters came to be where they are.
As the story unfolds, a tone of something close to a teenage horror slasher movie plot falls into place, with all of the characters over time doing all of the wrong things of course. It was a bit amusing to hear their thoughts and they knowing they were not at all doing the right things. The atmosphere around the castle setting is unnerving and quite telling which I thought set the pieces into place well.
The erotica, save for when the succubi are involved, is a bit thin, lacking heat, and almost rote in how it happens. As the succubi come into the story, and the characters fall to them in various ways, there are flashes of heat, though perhaps a bit odd as much happens in a dream or nightmare sort of way.
The three succubi sisters of the story, Anna, Elizabeth and Charlotte, have their own personalities and offer different sorts of erotic pleasures and, in the end, damnation as well. But save for their sexual natures and the way the characters are pulled into their orbits, there is actually very little in the way of succubus aspects to them. There is a sense of mind control, their demonic natures are hinted at, but that really doesn’t come out fully, or be explored as much as I wanted that to be.

For the two stories, the same…
The story reads very much like a horror movie and that’s fine and it sets a tone. But there’s so little told about the succubi that they might have been any sort of demon or monster and the same tone and felling would be there. It’s a shame that the story glossed over the succubi and made them so dearly close to being stereotypical and passed over explaining more about why things turned out as they did.
