A dream sometimes is wrapped in a nightmare which cannot be escaped. The truth is a story onto itself and what follows is both desire and loss untold.
The work is a very short, what I call a pamphlet, erotic hot flash with aspects of dreams and nightmares falling into the clutches of an incubus and what comes afterwards. It’s a bit odd in the storytelling, there are points at which the story feels lost and then jumps onto another thread leaving something behind that might have been better story to unravel.
The incubus, who is never named, is very much a creature of evil wrapped in a seductive shadow. They are dominant, a little over the top and for the most part there’s an aspect of them that feels very stereotypical and I think that made the story darker as a result, especially the climax and ending.
Two and a half out of five pitchforks.
The work needs another editing pass, mainly for the dialogue which is missing the emotional impact that should be there at times. The narrative also could use a bit more life to it as it becomes bland at points when it should not be. The ending is something which makes sense and at the same time I think it took something away from the story as well.
