The work is a very short, what I call a pamphlet, fantasy adventure set in a series of short vignettes which involve for the most part encounters with succubi and a mention of an incubus in passing. With the story being so short, there’s really no character development and as such the focus is on the conflict between the characters and the succubi they encounter.

Lilith and Elspeth, there is also passing mention of an incubus encounter as well, are the two succubi of the work. Each has their own part of the story, but overall they are very much stereotypical in their actions and nature overall. With that said, it’s difficult to really tell more about them as they appear, seduce, and then the climax arrives before they are ended and the story moves onwards.

Two and a half out of five pitchforks.

While the succubus theme is part of the story, it’s otherwise rather flat in tone, the characters are two-dimensional as well. There’s also a kind of disconnect between the chapters, more a series of vignettes than a cohesive story which is a shame. There’s not enough time for the story to develop well and that was needed here to make this a far better read than it turned out to be.

A seductive evil lurks and it is up to a small group to overcome. But sometimes the darkness is so very difficult to overcome and the losses can be staggering.
