			Any good adventure needs three things. A hero, a maiden in distress, and some sort of evil waiting in the wings. Sometimes the adventure isn’t quite what the hero thinks, and then one does have to think quickly to get out of the mess they have made for themselves.

			The work is an interesting fantasy adventure with quite telling characters and a plot which has a few twists and turns along the way. A bit silly at points, quite dark in others, overall what comes by the climax is a captivating fantasy.

			It is a work of fantasy, there’s no erotic aspects to the story, even with a succubus as one of the characters. The succubus, who is never named, has control over characters in the story, there are hints of her power, but overall she’s less a succubus and more a demoness with a plan. It would have been nice to put a name to her, to explore her story a little. As things are, she’s in the story to push things along to a climax, but otherwise she seems a bit underused.

			Three out of five pitchforks.

			More a fantasy adventure with a succubus character than a story where the succubus is more of a central one. It’s a shame the succubus was never named, or her plans really not explored. Still, it is an interesting fantasy adventure and, perhaps, something more will follow.

When a rich and powerful elven wizard request a mercenary killer from the local thieves’ guild he’s sent Esar-Haden, a dark elf rogue. The two men form a stark contrast, and it’s not just the colors of their skins. But a job is a job and Esar-Haden, perpetually down on his luck, needs the gold.

The job is explained. Esar-Haden feels up to it. Of course, complications pop up immediately. One is the wizard’s naive and innocent sister, Esmé. As soon as Esar-Haden lays eyes on her he’s smitten. She’s curious about him, too, but afraid.

The next complication is the wizard Esar-Haden is supposed to kill. She’s even more gorgeous than Esmé but in an entirely different way. Yet again, a contrast. But a job is a job and Esar-Haden needs the gold.

Yet this time he’s not the thief—he’s the mark. This time he’s not the assassin—he’s the sacrifice. Esar-Haden knows the danger he’s in. He’s met demons before. What he doesn’t know is how in the hell he’s going to get out of it—and rescue Esmé, too.
