			The true power of succubi is they are the manifestation of desire and temptation. It is their nature, the reason for them to exist, and the evil waiting for the unwary to be ensnared. Evan has the first, the second offers other possibilities. But are they what they seem or just a means to capture yet another soul for their amusement.

			The work continues on from the prior work in the series, the story remaining complex and convoluted. The mystery surrounding Evan deepens and be becomes trapped by both circumstance and the nature of the succubi themselves. At times the story becomes something of a wish fulfilment, fantasy bleeding into reality which works well to add tension. But at the same time there’s a rush in the storytelling to get to the next moment and the onrushing confrontations.

			The second of the succubi, Mara is something of a femme fatale, and she delights in being so. Perhaps just over the edge of being stereotypically so, she tempts, twists the truth, and just feels a bit too much like a devil with a deal. That’s not a bad thing, more that it feels like there’s something else about her which hasn’t been told and I wonder about that.

			The erotica continues to have the same heat as the prior work, it is part of the story but doesn’t really add a lot. It’s a means to an end, some embellishment added. The focus remains on telling the story of the characters, to build the framework of the series and see where that takes things. Given Mara’s nature and her appearance, perhaps allowing for a trap being set through her might have been a thought.

			Still, two of the three succubi have fully revealed themselves and there is a point noted which makes me wonder about them all. It’s mentioned several times and where that takes things might matter somehow. The story remains more of a dream mixed with flashes of nightmares and there might be a tipping point before the series comes to a close.

			Three and a half out of five pitchforks.

			The truth remains shaded behind a lot of layers and I’m not sure that given the next work will conclude the series that there’s enough time left to bring things to a satisfying close. It’s possible of course, but the story seemed to be scattered and looking for direction. I’m still captivated by the work and the succubi themselves. Hopefully what comes next is more than the mirages which have come before.
